Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about the tests, how uktest.com works, and how to use the site in your own language.

About the tests

Which tests does uktest.com cover?+

uktest.com has practice and mock tests for the Life in the UK Test, the US civics test, the Canadian citizenship test, the Australian citizenship test, the German Einbürgerungstest, and the French examen civique. Use the footer links or the test flag in the header to switch tests.

Is this the official test, or affiliated with the government?+

No. uktest.com is an independent, free study aid. It is not affiliated with the Home Office, USCIS, IRCC or the Australian Department of Home Affairs, and it is not a substitute for official guidance. Always check the official government website for the real exam rules.

What language are the test questions in?+

UK and US test questions stay in English, matching the real exam. For Canada, IRCC lets you sit the knowledge test in English or French, so you can choose EN or FR next to 🇨🇦 CA. This is separate from the website's interface language.

How many questions and how long is the Life in the UK Test?+

GOV.UK: 24 questions, 45 minutes. You must score 75% or more. This site mock uses 18/24 because that is 75%. Details: /life-in-the-uk-test. Book only on https://www.gov.uk/life-in-the-uk-test

Where do I book the Life in the UK Test?+

Only on GOV.UK. £50. At least 3 days in advance. uktest.com does not book it. See /book-life-in-the-uk-test and https://www.gov.uk/life-in-the-uk-test

Which US civics test do I take — 2025 or 2008?+

N-400 filing date, not interview date. Before 20 October 2025: 2008 (up to 10 from 100, pass 6). On or after: 2025 (20 from 128, pass 12, 60%). uktest.com/us practice is the 2025 bank. Details: /us/2025-civics-test

How the website works

What is Practice mode?+

Practice mode is untimed. As soon as you pick an answer you see whether it was correct and read an explanation, then move to the next question at your own pace.

What is a Mock test?+

A mock test simulates the real exam: it can be timed, you move through questions with Back and Next, and you only see your full results — score, pass/fail and explanations — at the end.

What are Weak areas?+

Weak areas practice focuses on the chapters you have scored lowest on. Take a mock test first so the site has enough answers to work out which topics to focus on; you'll need to be logged in to use this.

What does the hint (peek) button do?+

During practice, the hint button shows you the relevant handbook text so you can find the answer yourself. Using it is helpful for learning, but that question is then counted as missed, even if you go on to answer it correctly.

I think a question is wrong — what should I do?+

Use the Challenge button under that question to flag it for review, with a short note if you like. Our team checks challenged questions; please don't use the general contact form for this.

How is my progress tracked?+

Every finished attempt is saved. Guests keep a copy on their own device (browser storage). If you are logged in, your results are also saved to your account, and your progress by chapter is shown on the Progress page.

Accounts and saving progress

Do I need an account to use the site?+

No. You can take practice and mock tests as a guest, with no sign-up required. An account is only needed for Weak areas practice, and to keep your progress saved across devices.

What happens to my results if I'm not logged in?+

They are saved on your device only (the last 20 attempts), so they won't follow you to another browser or device, and could be lost if you clear your browser data.

How do I see my progress over time?+

Log in, then open the Progress page from the menu. It shows your status per chapter, so you can see which topics still need work.

Using the website in your own language

How do I change the website language?+

Use the language menu at the top of every page. The change applies immediately and stays on the same page you were viewing.

If I change the website language, does that change the test questions too?+

No. Changing the interface language only translates menus, buttons and help text. UK and US test questions always stay in English. For Canada, use the separate EN / FR toggle next to 🇨🇦 CA to choose the language of the test itself.
